Rockport Early Childhood Center

Now Enrolling, Stop in for a Tour!

INTRODUCTION

Rockport Early Childhood Center has been open since August 31, 1981. Our center has a long history of providing quality care and education to young children, ages six weeks to seven years. You can find us in beautiful Rocky River, Ohio on the rim of the Rocky River Valley.

PURPOSE & GOALS OF THE CENTER

Through the Center, Rockport United Methodist Church will serve the needs of the community by providing a daily child care center for children aged six weeks through seven years (first grade). The needs of each child will be served in a comprehensive early childhood program that provides learning experiences in all areas—physical, social, emotional, and cognitive. To fulfill our purpose, the following goals guide and direct our nurturing and teaching:

We will facilitate the growth of the child as a total person and enable the child to realize that he/she is special and unique. We will become a family-life learning community, which involves staff, children, parents, the church, and others who share concern for the growth of young children.

Because we honor families, we weave a fine fabric of security and acceptance
for the children in our care.

PHILOSOPHY HIGHLIGHTS

We value the trust placed in us by parents who choose Rockport. We believe in and are committed to the following:
The environment we set up is consistent and nurturing. Our primary goal is to provide a safe, warm, secure, and loving place for your child.
We use Ohio’s Infant & Toddler Guidelines (which consist of Physical Health, Emotional, Social, Motor, Language & Communication, and Cognitive Development) for our curriculum and the goals we establish. The years from birth to three set the stage for success in school and life.
We use the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards (which consist of English, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) and the Creative Curriculum for our curriculum and the goals we establish. Quality Preschool experience lays the foundation for Kindergarten readiness and success in life.
We nurture the educational development of your child through reinforcing the basic skills being taught in Kindergarten and First grade classrooms.
We are committed to building each child’s self-esteem and empowering them as individuals. We recognize and celebrate the rights of young children.
With infants and toddlers, we encourage the beginning of pro-social skills in their relationship with other children and adults through sharing, taking turns, and respecting the rights and property of others.
We believe in encouraging preschool and school age children to be involved in peaceful conflict resolution, through expressing their feelings and discussing positive alternatives to aggression. We encourage pro-social behaviors in children such as cooperating, taking turns, participating in clean-up times and recognizing the rights of others.
We are committed to developing anti-bias attitudes and a respect and appreciation for all people. Through our curriculum and the materials/equipment we use, and the environment we create, we promote this learning.
We strive to develop a respect and appreciation for the Earth’s resources and inhabitants.
We see ourselves as a team with parents, always recognizing the primary, most important role you play in your child’s life. We would welcome and appreciate the opportunity to teach and care for your child.

Dear Parents:

Welcome to Pre-School Graduation – a “day of days” in the life of your child and in your lives as well.

With Kindergarten right around the corner, you could easily find yourself pausing to reflect on the memories you hold in your heart – that first step, the first word, art on the refrigerator, listening to the ABC song (perhaps a hundred times). Words from the teacher may be echoing in your mind – “he was a great helper to me at clean up time”, “she was a wonderful friend today”. These bittersweet reflections are mixed with a sense of pride, but a realization of just how quickly these times pass. You come to understand that the milestones your child experiences really unfold in the day to day. It is indeed occasions like today that give us an opportunity to look back and celebrate.

We celebrate with you who your child is and who they are becoming. This Peanuts cartoon, perhaps, speaks of your deepest wish (and our’s too) for your child – happiness. We all know that sometimes in life happiness must transcend outward circumstances. Happiness must be rooted in resiliency, respect for self and others, patience, gratefulness, courage, contentment, a sense of humor, connection to family and community, and integrity. These qualities we begin to learn early in life. We hope that we have planted the seeds of these qualities in your child and that they will offer lasting gifts – ultimately “outrageous happiness”.

Milestones have a way of making us keenly aware of the blessings we have in our lives. Today is one such blessing. The significance, I am sure, will grow deeper still with the passage of time, and the milestones yet to come.

You can rest in the knowledge that you have grounded your child in love, love that is deep and abiding. Love that lays the foundation for happiness now and in the future. Your child will always be a part of our Rockport family. Thank you for sharing them with us. Each of them will linger in our minds and hearts. May school and life be rich and full for them in all the ways that matter most.

Peace,
Miss Valerie, Director
