Rockport Early Childhood Center
The Ten “P’s” Of Parent Communications
Parent Relationship Development
Relationships with parents must be initiated, maintained and made a priority
Positive
A teacher must be positive about one special person: the child. Each teacher must work hard at being an encourager, a child’s biggest fan.
Personable
A teacher must do their very best everyday to be friendly, even when they do not feel like it. Individuals who are “other oriented” will be known as friendly and kind.
Proactive
Staff should not wait for a parent to initiate conversation. They should speak first, say good morning, inquire about the parent’s day or comment on the great time the child had.
Passion About Being A Teacher
Teachers should openly display and verbalize their desire to impact a child’s life in a positive way. Teachers should let parents know that they love what they do. Parents should know that the teacher is serious about wanting to make a difference in the life of their child.
Present The Day’s Happenings
Parents need to know the activities of the day so they can engage in conversation with their child.
Philosophy Upheld
Every Center should have a philosophy – one that is upheld by the staff.
Parent Assessment
Parent feedback should be encouraged and addressed.
Being service-minded and “other oriented” can help transform a Center from average to excellent and create a reputation for responsiveness and quality – a reputation that is priceless in today’s world.
